  Edelweiss Air is a small, Swiss charter airline with its headquarters based in Zurich airport. The airline began operations in 1995 and takes its name from the Swiss national flower - the Edelweiss. Edelweiss Air was up to 2008, owned by Kuoni Travel Ltd but was acquired in that year by Swiss International Airlines. A little later, Swiss International Air Lines was itself acquired by Lufthansa, making Edelweiss Air, a subsidiary of the German airline but managing itself independently.

  Edelweiss Air is considered a 3 star airline, with a small aircraft fleet of 5 planes ( Oct 2010 ). There are two categories of ticket - Business and Economy available on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard, with the level of inflight entertainment available, depending on the aircraft. The safety record of the airline is very good, with to date no record of any incidents. The airline website is user friendly and easy to booking a flight.

  Swiss International Air Lines is the national carrier for Switzerland,with its headquarters based in Basel. The airline was recently formed in 2002, from the bankrupt airline Swissair,which was founded back in 1931. Swissair expanded in the following decades but towards the end of the century began to suffer financially from stiff competition,as other airlines did from the budget airlines. As well as this there followed the large economic slump following the 2001 attacks in New York, which resulted in Swissair becoming bankrupt in 2002. A few years later in 2005, Swiss International Air Lines was acquired by the German airline Lufthansa but the airline continued trading under its own brand name.

  Swiss International Air Lines is considered a 4 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 89 planes ( July 2011) flying to 72 destinations.The safety record of the airline in recent years is good.There are three categories of ticket available - First,Business and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a high standard in all of the ticket classes. The quality service was rewarded at the Skytrax's 2011 Airline Awards with Swiss International Air Lines awarded Best Western European Airline and also runner up overall Best European Airline. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to booking a flight.
