SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka with headquarters based at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.The airline was founded in 1947,known then as Air Ceylon but following its closure in 1978 the Government of Sri Lanka reformed the airline the following year, under the new name of Air Lanka. The coming years brought part privatisation to the airline in the form of investment,which increased the size of the aircraft fleet. At the 2012 Skytrax World Airline Awards,held in the UK , SriLankan Airlines were recognised as the fourth best airline in the Central Asia/India Region.
SriLankan Airlines is considered a 3 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 23 planes ( Nov 2011 ) and travelling to 61 destinations. The safety record of the airline is good with no recent incidents/accidents. The cabin service is a good standard with good passenger approval. The Inflight entertainment is a good standard with the availability of video on selection, as well as varied music channels and games as options.
