Jat Airways is the national carrier of Serbia with headquarters based in Belgrade. The airline began operations in 1927 as a state owned company,being known then as Aeroput and is one of the oldest airlines in the world. The second World War forced the end of air operations and it was not until 1947 that the airline resumed with a new brand name of JAT - Jugoslovenski aerotransport. The airline made good progress in the following decades expanding the aircraft fleet and increasing destination routes until 1992, when the Yugoslav war broke out. With the end of the bloody conflict a decade later, came a new period of normality and was marked in 2003 with the change of the brand name of the airline to the current JAT Airways.
JAT Airways is considered a 3 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 14 planes ( May 2012 ) and travelling to 33 destinations. The safety record of the airline in recent years is good,although in 2009 a JAT flight heading for Istanbul had a mid engine failure and had to divert to Sofia, where the plane landed safely. The cabin service and conditions are good with similar passenger approval. Inflight entertainment is limited as most flights are short haul. There are two categories of ticket available on flights - Business and Economy Class. The airline' s website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.
