Tarom Ro is the national carrier of Romania with headquarters based in the capital city of Bucharest. The airline began operations in 1920 being known then as CFRNA ( French-Romanian Company for Air Navigation ). In the following years there were several airline mergers to increase the size of CFRNA and in 1954 the current name of Tarom Ro ( Transporturi Aeriene Romane ) was adopted. Being part of the Eastern bloc there was a big influence of Russian aircraft in service at this time. With the collapse of the Communist Party in 1989 there followed a period when Western built aircraft were purchased and the restructuring of the airline, to improve its financial position.
Tarom Ro is considered a 3 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 24 planes ( Sep 2011 ) and travelling to 54 destinations. The airline safety record is good in recent years,although in 2007 a Tarom flight leaving Bucharest crashed into a car on the runway in foggy conditions and fortunately resulting in no injuries. The cabin service and conditions are good and so is passenger approval. Inflight entertainment does not score as high. There are two categories of ticket available on flights - Business and Economy Class. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.
