  Norwegian is a budget airline, with its headquarters based near Oslo. The airline has now become the second largest airline in Scandinavia and offers mostly domestic routes in Norway, although in recent years the airline has been expanding to European destinations. There are plans in the coming year for opening up routes to North America and the Far East. Norwegian began operating in 1994 under the trading name of Norwegian Air Shuttle and serving the domestic network of Norway. Following a period of expansion the airline changed its brand name to 'Norwegian' in 2002, with new routes opening up in Europe. The progress has been rewarded recently with recognition at the 2011 Skytrax's Airline Awards in Paris of Norwegian being awarded the third Best Low Cost Airline in Europe.

  Norwegian is considered a 3 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 62 planes (Oct 2011) and travelling to 115 destinations. The safety record of the airline is very good with no incidents or accidents recorded to date. There is only one category of ticket available - Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard for a low cost airline. Inflight entertainment is limited, as most flights are short haul and catering is based on a buy on board basis. The airline website is user friendly and easy for booking a flight.

  Norwegian has become a successful low cost airline in a small space of time,providing travellers on a limited budget attractive low airfares. This airline is worth comparing with other carriers for the best air travel value.

  SAS is the largest airline in Scandinavia and is surprisingly the national carrier of Denmark,Norway and Sweden, with its headquarters based at Stockholm Airport and with its main hub at Copenhagen Airport. The airline was founded in 1946, with the merger of three national ( Danish,Norwegian,Swedish) small airlines to form the airline SAS. The airline was the first to operate the trans polar route, involving a stopover in Greenland,which became popular with passengers. SAS has made great progress and has expanded over the years. In 2011,at the Skytrax's Airline Awards held in Paris,SAS was the runner up Best Airline in the North European region.

  SAS is considered a 3 star airline, with an aircraft fleet of 138 planes (Jan 2012) and travelling to 90 destinations. The safety record of the airline is a good standard,with only an incident in 2010,when a SAS flight heading for London Heathrow Airport suffered severe turbulence,with a member of the cabin staff sustaining a serious spinal injury. There are three categories of ticket available - Business,Premium Economy and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard although on short haul Economy Class flights, catering and inflight entertainment do not score as high.The airline website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.

  SAS provides travellers with a good quality standard of air travel and is worth comparing its airfares with the other carriers before booking a flight.
