  Air Asia is a Malaysian budget airline, with its headquarters based at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Air Asia is the largest low cost airline in Asia and one of the first to have a ticketless system. The airline began operating in 1996 as a government owned entity. In the following years, Air Asia had serious financial problems and was acquired in 2001 by the Tune Group. The airline made a dramatic turnaround in the following years, with good profits due to the airline introducing new efficient methods, amongst which were the quick turnaround of planes and higher productivity of the cabin crews. At this time Air Asia launched several new airline subsidiaries - Thai AirAsia,Indonesia AirAsia,AirAsia Philippines,VietJet AirAsia and Air AsiaX - to increase the domestic and international routes available. The quick progress Air Asia has made was recognised at the 2011 Skytrax Airline Awards held in Paris, winning the awards for World's Best Low Cost Airline and also Best Asian Low Cost Airline.

  Air Asia is considered a 3 star airline, with an aircraft fleet of 56 planes ( Feb 2010) and travelling to 80 destinations. The safety record of the airline is very good with no incidents/accidents recorded to date. There is only one category of ticket available - Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard for a low cost airline. Inflight entertainment is limited as most flights are short haul. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.

  Air Asia is a very successful low cost airline providing travellers with many destination options and at very attractive airfares. For travellers with a limited budget this is an airline to consider especially for short haul flights.

  Malaysia Airlines is the national carrier of Malaysia, with its headquarters based at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subrong,Salangor but with plans to move in early 2012, to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The airline, known as Malayan Airways when it started to operate in 1947, began in the early years to make steady growth by opening up domestic routes. In 1963 the airline changed its name to Malaysian Airlines and began to open up international routes around the globe. With Singapore leaving the political federation in 1972, Malaysian Airlines had to split into two airlines,forming the current brand name - Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines. The following years Malaysia Airlines expanded the domestic and international network but suffered periods of financial difficulties due to economic downturns, which resulted in the restructuring of the airline, so that it could compete with the other leading international airlines.

  Malaysia Airlines is considered a 5 star airline, with an aircraft fleet of 111 planes ( July 2011) and travelling to 60 destinations. The safety record of the airline is good in recent years with no accidents recorded. There are three categories of ticket available - First Class,Business and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a very good standard with high passenger approval. The inflight entertainment is a high standard with individual TV monitors showing video on demand,audio channels in all cabin areas, although some of the older planes provide Economy Class seats with drop down screen monitors. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.

  Malaysia Airlines provides travellers with a high standard of airline travel and at attractive airfare prices, worth comparing with other national carriers.
