AirBaltic is the flag carrier for Latvia with headquarters based at Riga. The airline is a low cost carrier and began operating in 1995. AirBaltic was founded as a joint venture between the Government of Latvia and the Scandinavian airline SAS. Air Baltic grew over the following years expanding the aircraft fleet, increasing the destination routes and also in 2004 changing the brand name to AirBaltic . In 2009, the airline SAS decided to sell its share interest in AirBaltic. A few years later the Latvian Government took over the budget airline due to financial difficulties and invested further capital into Air Baltic.
AirBaltic is considered a 3 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 33 planes ( July 2012 ) and travelling to 60 destinations. The safety record of the airline is good with no recent incidents or accidents recorded to date. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard. Inflight entertainment is limited as most flights are short haul. Catering is based on a buy on board basis. There are two categories of ticket available on flights - Business and Economy Class. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.
