Ana All Nippon Airways (ANA) is a Japanese airline with headquarters based in Shiodome City Center,Tokyo. The airline began operating in 1953 as a private company, being known then as Nippon Helicopter and Aeroplane. After the merger with Far Eastern Airlines in 1958, the new airline was renamed All Nippon Airways. Following a further merger with Fujita Airlines in the later years, the airline progressed with expanding domestic and international routes and increasing its aircraft fleet. Ana All Nippon Airways has been very successful in the last decades and at the Skytrax 2012 World Airline Awards,held in the UK, was voted the Best Transpacific Airline, fourth Best Airline in Asia and also fifth Best Airline in the World.
Ana All Nippon Airways is considered a 4 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 180 planes ( Jul 2012 ) and travelling to 80 destinations. The safety record of the airline in recent years is good,although in 2011 an Ana flight flying to Tokyo,flipped over nearly 180 degrees in midair and descended very quickly, due to an accidental instrument panel selection by one of the aircrew. Fortunately the control of the plane was recovered speedily and there were only a few minor injuries to flight attendants and passengers. The cabin service and conditions are a high standard with passenger approval also high. Inflight entertainment is a high standard with video on demand available on personalised TV monitors.
