The airline name is taken from the Alpine mountain section known as the Dolomites.

  Alitalia is the national airline of Italy with its headquarters based in Rome. The airline began operating in 1947 and has grown larger with passage of time. In recent years Alitalia has faced severe financial difficulties, being forced into liquidation in 2008. Alitalia has not been a profitable airline in the past and a bid from a consortium of investors was accepted in 2008, to takeover the profitable assets of the airline. To date the relaunch of Alitalia has progressed well and there is optimism that it will be successful in the future.

The safety record of the airline is good,with only two recent incidents,which resulted in no injuries. There are two categories of ticket available on flights - Business and Economy Class. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard although inflight entertainment does not score as high in the Economy Class area.
