  Aegean Airlines is one of the main airlines in Greece, with its headquarters based in Kifisia,Athens. The airline began operating in 1987,known then as Aegean Aviation and specialising in VIP and business travel. In 1999, the airline began a scheduled service and changed its brand name to the current Aegean Airlines. In the following years, the airline was successful in increasing in size and network of routes with the takeover of several smaller airlines. In recent years, there was a possibility of a merger with the other large Greek airline Olympic Air but this failed due to EEC competition regulations not approving this happening. Aegean Airlines has become successful in the last decade and recognised with awards, including Skytrax's 2011 Airline Awards held in Paris,where Aegean Airlines was voted Best European Regional Airline and also runner up Best South European Airline.

  Aegean Airlines is considered a 3 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 29 planes ( June 2011) and travelling to 33 destinations. The aircraft in service are new, providing passengers with good cabin conditions. The safety record of the airline is very good, with no incidents or accidents recorded to date. There are two categories of ticket available Business and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard with high passenger approval ,although inflight entertainment does not score as high, as most flights are short haul. The airline's website is user friendly and easy for making a flight booking.

  Olympic Air is a newly formed Greek privatised airline resulting from the bankruptcy of the existing national carrier of Greece - Olympic Airlines. Olympic Air began operations only recently in 2009, with its headquarters based at Koropi,near Athens. This new airline now caters for the Greek domestic market with only a few international destinations. There have been several attempts to merge with Aegean Airlines but due to EEC competition regulations these have not been successful. The aim now for Olympic Air is to expand its international network routes and increase profits.

  Olympic Air is considered a 3 star airline, with a small aircraft fleet of 24 planes travelling to 40 destinations mostly domestic. The safety record of the airline is very good, with no incidents or accidents recorded to date. There are two categories of ticket available - Business and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard although inflight entertainment is limited, as most flights are short haul. The airline's website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.
