  Blue 1 is a small, Finnish low cost airline with headquarters based at Vantaa in Finland. The airline is owned by the large SAS Group and flies mainly to domestic Finnish locations, as well as Scandinavian and some other European cities.The airline began operating in 1988 and known then as Air Botnia. The airline had financial difficulties in 1995 and was heading towards bankruptcy. The SAS Group decided to takeover the airline in 1998 and with the financial muscle available invested in new aircraft to make the airline viable again. In 2004, the airline was renamed as Blue 1 and began to make good progress expanding and becoming profitable. The airline is now the second largest in Finland after the national carrier Finnair.

  Blue 1 is considered a 3 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 9 planes (July 2012) travelling to 22 destinations. The safety record is good with no record of any incidents or accidents recorded. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard with a high passenger approval.
