Czech Airlines is the state national carrier of the Czech Republic and also currently the temporary flag carrier of Slovakia, with its headquarters based at Ruzyne Airport,Prague. This state airline began operating in 1923,known then as Czecho Slovak Airlines. The airline grew slowly over the next decades as a result of the controls placed by the Communist government. With the break up of the Czechoslovak Federation in 1995, the airline began to modernise itself changing the brand name to the current Czech Airlines and introducing western aircraft, replacing the Russian planes in its fleet . Czech Airlines has had financial difficulties in recent years making substantial losses, which the government has had to absorb.
Czech Airlines is considered a 3 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 31 planes (Jan 2012) and travelling to 52 destinations. The safety record of the airline is good, with no recent incidents/accidents recorded. There are two ticket categories available - Business and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard. Inflight entertainment is basic, as most flights are short haul.
