  Jetstar Airways is a budget airline, with its headquarters based in Melbourne,Australia. The airline was only recently founded in 2003 and is a subsidiary of Qantas, but operates independently of its parent company. Jetstar Airways in the early years covered the domestic Australian internal routes and was created to compete with the other major domestic carrier Virgin Australia. In only a few years Jetstar Airways has made good progress and is now extending routes to international destinations. This progress has been recognised with recent success at the Skytrax 2011 World Airline Awards in Paris, being named as the Best Low-Cost Airline and third Best Airline in the Australia/Pacific region.

  Jetstar Airways is considered a 3 star airline, with a modern aircraft fleet of 68 planes ( Feb 2012) and travelling to 34 destinations. The safety record of the airline is very good,with only a recent incident in 2009,when there was a fire in the cockpit area of a flight but which was extinguished quickly, with the result that no one on board was hurt. There are two categories of ticket available - Star and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard, although the inflight entertainment does not score as high.The airline's website is well designed and easy to make a flight booking. Although a budget airline,Jetstar Airways offers the facility of reserving seats when booking online.

  Qantas is the national carrier of Australia and is the second oldest airline in the world,with its headquarters based in Sydney,New South Wales. The airline,nicknamed 'The Flying Kangaroo' was founded in 1920 and known then as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. The current name is an acronym of the original name. The airline developed and expanded through the 20th century from flying boats to the modern jetliners of today and from government owned to private ownership. Qantas is now recognised as one of the major airlines in the world and in recent years has received many awards from the airline industry. At the Skytrax 2011 World Airline Awards in Paris, Qantas was in the top ten list of Best Airlines in the world,listed eighth and also runner up Best Airline in the Australia/Pacific region.

  Qantas is considered a 4 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 143 planes(Oct 2011) and travelling to 41 destinations.The safety record of the airline in recent years is good, although there were a few incidents in recent years. In Oct 2008,on a flight from Singapore to Perth,there were 44 passengers taken for hospital treatment, after a malfunction of the plane's on board computer system, causing a sudden temporary loss of control of the plane's altitude. There are four different ticket categories - First,Business,Premium Economy and Economy Class on flights. The cabin service and conditions are a high standard in all cabin areas, with flat bed availability in First Class and Business areas. Inflight entertainment is very good standard,with individual TV monitors giving access to video on demand,TV programmes,music channels,mobile phone and internet access in all cabin sections.

  Qantas being one of the major airlines of the world provides travellers with quality air travel and service and worth considering when making a booking.

  Virgin Australia is now the second largest airline in Australia,with its headquarters based near Brisbane in Queensland.The airline began operating in 2000,known then as Virgin Blue, with Sir Richard Branson being one of it co-founders.Virgin Australia started as a low cost airline, concentrating on the domestic routes of Australia.The following years the airline made good progress and began to change strategy and compete with the national carrier Qantas on international routes. In 2011 the brand name changed to Virgin Australia with the introduction of new planes. The expansion and progress was acknowledged with awards and in 2011 at the Skytrax World Airline Awards held in Paris - Virgin Australia received the Service Excellence and runner up Best Low Cost Airline Awards for the Australia/Pacific region.

The safety record is very good with no incidents or accidents recorded to date. There are three categories of ticket available -Business,Premium Economy and Economy Class on flights.The cabin service and conditions are a very good standard with seat comfort and inflight entertainment scoring well. Inflight entertainment is a high standard with individual TV monitors, with access to videos on demand,TV programmes and also access to a music library.Catering on board is also a high standard.
