PIA is the national airline of Pakistan, with its headquarters based in Karachi. The airline began operating in 1946, being known then as Orient Airways. In the early years the airline faced financial difficulties and as a result in 1955 the government of Pakistan took over the airline, renaming it as Pakistan International Airways ( PIA). The airline was now able to grow the size of the aircraft fleet and destination air routes, with the financial support of the government. In recent years with the current global financial crisis, the airline has been facing trading losses.
PIA is considered a 3 star airline with an aircraft fleet of 35 planes (Jun 2012) and travelling to 62 destinations. The safety record in recent years is good,although in 2006, a PIA domestic flight crashed after take off at Multan International Airport, with all 45 persons on board losing their lives. The cabin service and conditions are a good standard with good passenger approval. Inflight Entertainment is limited and varied and not scoring as high on short and long haul flights. There are 3 categories of ticket available on flights - Business Plus,Economy Plus and Economy. The airline website is user friendly and easy to make a flight booking.
