The airline began as a private company but a few years later the airline became listed, as a public trading company. In only a short period of time this airline has made great strides in the airline industry, after some difficult legal problems arising with the airport facility used, being so close to the centre of the city of Toronto. The airline is the highest rated airline in Canada.
Porter Airlines is considered a 4 star airline with a small aircraft fleet of 26 planes ( May 2011 ) and 18 travelling destinations. The airline has a very modern fleet of planes, as a result of being such a new airline. The flights available are all short haul flights and there is only one category of ticket available - Economy Class. The safety record is very good, with only a few incidents to date, which resulted in no injuries.
The cabin service and conditions are very good with a high approval from passengers. Inflight Entertainment is not catered for at this time. This small airline has become popular with travellers for the high standards of customer service it offers. There has been speculation that the airline is not profitable at this time.

The airline was founded recently in 1996 and one of the few airlines now without the presence of unions. In the early period of the airline the destination routes were all in Western Canada and gave the reason for the name of the company. Westjet Airlines has made good progress increasing the number of destinations and the growth of passengers numbers travelling, over the recent years. This improvement has resulted in recognition by the airline industry, with highly respected awards. At the 2011 Skytrax's World Airline Awards in Paris, Westjet Airlines came runner up for Best Low-Cost Airline in North America and also the 3rd Best Domestic Airline in North America.
Westjet Airlines is considered a 4 star airline, with an aircraft fleet of 96 planes (Aug 2011) and travelling to 71 destinations. The aircraft fleet is quite new but there are plans to replace and increase the current aircraft fleet. The safety record is good, although there have been several incidents in recent years, with a small number of minor injuries.There is only one category of ticket available on flights - Economy Class.
The cabin service and conditions are good, although the handling of delays and cancellations does not score as high. The Inflight Entertainment offered includes satellite TV and other TV channels shown on individual monitors. The airline's website is user friendly, with good access to attractive fares.
This airline has become popular with passengers with a limited budget as it offers good value in airfares and service.
