Jetstar Airways is a budget airline, with its headquarters based in Melbourne,Australia. The airline was only recently founded in 2003 and is a subsidiary of Qantas, but operates independently of its parent company. Jetstar Airways in the early years covered the domestic Australian internal routes and was created to compete with the other major domestic carrier Virgin Australia. In only a few years Jetstar Airways has made good progress and is now extending routes to international destinations. This progress has been recognised with recent success at the Skytrax 2011 World Airline Awards in Paris, being named as the Best Low-Cost Airline and third Best Airline in the Australia/Pacific region.

Qantas is the national carrier of Australia and is the second oldest airline in the world,with its headquarters based in Sydney,New South Wales. The airline,nicknamed 'The Flying Kangaroo' was founded in 1920 and known then as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. The current name is an acronym of the original name. The airline developed and expanded through the 20th century from flying boats to the modern jetliners of today and from government owned to private ownership.
